General Description: This course is a survey of developments in Christianity focusing on main theological themes, spiritualities, liturgical expressions, and practices that have evolved over a two-thousand-year period. More broadly, this is a course in cultural literacy that seeks to explain and critically analyze the world that we inhabit with its countless religious, political, and social expressions which impact us daily. The course attends primarily to past events but is passionately and persistently interested in present realities, the common good, and current questions about belief, belonging, and behaviour. It focuses on Christianity, but it invites students of all religions, backgrounds, and worldviews to engage in questions and issues about life that matter most.
