In this seminar students compare cross-disciplinary and discipline-based approaches to various international development issues. They also explore solutions to the problem of integrating development theory and practice. Students articulate their own understanding of development on the basis of critical reflection on examples of successful and unsuccessful development. The seminar includes critical reflection on students’ experiences with development issues in the classroom, practicum, or in extra-curricular activities. Course Objectives; students will • address, with reference to their own study and experience, the relationships among cross-disciplinary and discipline-based approaches to the study and practice of intentional good change • integrate their practicum and other intentional change experiences with classroom learning • engage the importance and complexity of inter-relating theories & values/beliefs in intentional change practices • assess scholarly literature on attitudes and ethical standards for those working for change • extend their own scholarly and personal grasp of strategies for change • improve academic and employment-relevant information management skills (researching, writing, and presenting), working independently and collaboratively
