This course is a survey of the theology and spirituality of Christianity from the first century to the modern period. As such it serves as an overview of the history of Christianity. Students will engage in seminal readings of almost two thousand years of Christian history and become familiar with the historical context of key religious texts. Voices from the mainstream and the margins will considered. The course will bring to light the seemingly paradoxical reality of unity and diversity within the history of the church and underscore the dynamic and diverse nature of Christian spirituality, theology, and lived experience.
