This course will focus on disabling conditions of childhood, the nature and scope of Music Therapy interventions with children. In addition, students will develop an increased understanding of the profession of Music Therapy through selected readings. Students will increase age appropriate repertoire, ability to lead musical interventions and be able to adapt music to suit their clients’ needs. Students will create and lead session plans for various populations, with clear goals and objectives. The practical application of music therapy techniques and clinical improvisation will be the focus of the weekly Clinical Improvisation and Skills (CIS) class, which accompanies the course.


A study of the foundations of solo vocal techniques, basic teaching principles, repertoire and its interpretation. Students will explore aspects of private music instruction with a view to discovering the qualities of a good voice instructor within themselves.
